Artificial Tree Hollows Aid Endangered Palm Cockatoos In Australia

Times of India · environment

Conservationists in Australia's Cape York Peninsula have achieved a significant breakthrough for endangered palm cockatoos by successfully raising a chick in an artificial tree hollow. This milestone follows the installation of 29 such structures to address a critical shortage of natural nesting sites caused by the scarcity of old-growth trees. A pair of cockatoos occupied one of the artificial hollows within a month of its installation, demonstrating the potential of these habitats to support the species.
