Kerala CM Calls for Protecting Vembanad Lake System Under Stress

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has urged for measures to protect the Vembanad lake system, which is facing severe ecological stress from climate change and human activities. The lake, spread across three districts, has shrunk significantly from its original size. Speaking at a tribute function for fisheries expert B. Madhusoodana Kurup, the Chief Minister highlighted Kurup's work in bringing attention to the lake's issues. Satheesan also proposed establishing a university chair in Kurup's name to continue his research.

केरल के मुख्यमंत्री वी.डी. सतीसन ने वेम्बनाड झील प्रणाली की सुरक्षा के लिए कदम उठाने का आग्रह किया है, जो जलवायु परिवर्तन और मानवीय गतिविधियों के कारण गंभीर पारिस्थितिक तनाव का सामना कर रही है। तीन जिलों में फैली यह झील अपने मूल आकार से काफी सिकुड़ गई है। मत्स्य विशेषज्ञ बी. मधुसूदन कुरुप के लिए एक श्रद्धांजलि समारोह में बोलते हुए मुख्यमंत्री ने झील के मुद्दों पर ध्यान आकर्षित करने में कुरुप के काम पर प्रकाश डाला। सतीसन ने उनके शोध को जारी रखने के लिए कुरुप के नाम पर एक विश्वविद्यालय चेयर स्थापित करने का भी प्रस्ताव रखा।
