India Urgently Needs Its Own AI Safety Institute To Test Models

India requires an independent AI Safety Institute to rigorously test artificial intelligence models for its market and national security needs. Currently, no Indian body is dedicated to assessing AI systems for safety, local context, and language compatibility before they reach users. Global AI safety standards are emerging, and India must be equipped to evaluate them and the AI models they govern. The proposed institute, part of the IndiaAI Mission, needs to be operational urgently to address these critical gaps.

भारत को अपने बाज़ार और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा की ज़रूरतों के लिए आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस (AI) मॉडलों का कड़ाई से परीक्षण करने हेतु एक स्वतंत्र AI सेफ्टी इंस्टीट्यूट (AI Safety Institute) की ज़रूरत है। अभी, कोई भी भारतीय संस्था AI सिस्टम का सुरक्षा, स्थानीय संदर्भ और भाषा अनुकूलता के लिए मूल्यांकन करने के लिए समर्पित नहीं है, इससे पहले कि वे उपयोगकर्ताओं तक पहुँचें। वैश्विक AI सुरक्षा मानक उभर रहे हैं, और भारत को उनका और उनके द्वारा नियंत्रित AI मॉडलों का मूल्यांकन करने के लिए तैयार रहना चाहिए। प्रस्तावित इंस्टीट्यूट, जो इंडियाएआई मिशन (IndiaAI Mission) का हिस्सा है, को इन महत्वपूर्ण कमियों को दूर करने के लिए तत्काल चालू करने की ज़रूरत है।
