New Lizard Species Discovered in Peru's Andes Mountains

Scientists have identified a new lizard species, named Liolaemus archipelagensis, in the Andes region of southern Peru. This small reptile, measuring 6 to 8 centimeters, was found at an altitude exceeding 4,800 meters in Arequipa. Distinct markings differentiate males and females, with females having square spots and males featuring diagonal ones, along with white scales for camouflage. The lizard is omnivorous, consuming plants, spiders, beetles, and insect larvae, adapting to the harsh, rocky environment.
