Pharma Stocks Rise As US Exempts Select Drugs

Indian pharmaceutical stocks defied a broader market decline on Tuesday, with the Nifty Pharma index rising over 1 per cent. This outperformance occurred as a 100 per cent US tariff on certain patented pharmaceutical products and ingredients became effective for more companies. However, qualifying speciality medicines from India will now receive zero duty. This exemption offers some relief to Indian drugmakers who have significant business interests in the United States market.

मंगलवार को शेयर बाज़ार में गिरावट के बावजूद भारतीय फार्मा शेयरों में तेज़ी देखी गई, निफ्टी फार्मा इंडेक्स 1 प्रतिशत से ज़्यादा बढ़ा। यह तेज़ी तब आई जब कुछ पेटेंट वाली फार्मा चीज़ों और सामग्री पर 100 प्रतिशत अमेरिकी टैरिफ ज़्यादा कंपनियों के लिए लागू हो गया। लेकिन, भारत की चुनिंदा ख़ास दवाओं पर अब कोई ड्यूटी नहीं लगेगी। यह छूट उन भारतीय दवा कंपनियों को कुछ राहत देगी जिनका अमेरिका के बाज़ार में बड़ा कारोबार है।
