Tamil Nadu Engineers Tested 100% Ethanol Cars 50 Years Ago
TOI - Delhi · india
Fifty years before India's E20 policy, engineers at Tamil Nadu's College of Engineering, Guindy, successfully modified cars to run on 100% ethanol. The research began in the 1970s due to rising petrol prices, with Professor T R Jagadeesan leading the team. Road tests showed ethanol offered lower mileage than petrol, but engine modifications improved its efficiency. Despite demonstrations to top officials, the project stalled due to concerns over fuel supply and food security.
