Karnataka HC Strikes Down 56% Quota; Ex-CM Calls it Setback
Times of India · politics
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called the Karnataka High Court's decision to strike down a law that increased reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes a serious setback. The law had raised SC reservation from 15% to 17% and ST reservation from 3% to 7%, exceeding the 50% ceiling. Siddaramaiah questioned the previous BJP government's decision to enact the law without ensuring constitutional sustainability and criticized the Centre for delaying its inclusion in the Ninth Schedule.
