The Maharashtra government is planning to construct four state-owned ports in the Konkan region, aiming to generate significant revenue. Minister Nitesh Rane stated that the Maharashtra Maritime Board is developing the plan. This initiative marks a shift from the traditional model of leasing coastal land to private operators. The state currently earns approximately ₹250 crore annually from royalties on 48 non-major ports and jetties. Primary estimates suggest these new projects could yield nearly ₹5,000 crore, transforming the ports department into a major state revenue generator.
