TMC MP Writes to UN Rights Chief Over Kolkata Colony Water Crisis
The Hindu · india
Trinamool Congress MP Samirul Islam has appealed to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding a drinking water crisis in Kolkata's Jyoti Nagar Colony. Islam alleges that water supply was cut off after the BJP came to power, specifically targeting Muslim residents. He emphasized that access to clean water is a basic human right, not merely a civic issue, and its prolonged denial impacts health and dignity. The MP urged UN mechanisms to investigate the alleged failure to provide adequate water, warning of potential disease outbreaks.
