Punjab Consumer Commission Rules Murdered Man's Family Eligible For Insurance Payout

The Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ruled that a family can still receive accidental death benefits from an insurance policy even if the policyholder was murdered. The commission stated that a planned murder does not automatically disqualify a claim for additional accidental death benefits. The Life Insurance Corporation of India was directed to pay the additional sum for four policies. This decision clarifies that the intent of the murderer and the classification of death as an accident under the policy are separate issues.

पंजाब राज्य उपभोक्ता विवाद निवारण आयोग ने फैसला सुनाया है कि अगर पॉलिसीधारक की हत्या भी हो जाए तो भी परिवार बीमा पॉलिसी से आकस्मिक मृत्यु लाभ प्राप्त कर सकता है। आयोग ने कहा कि सुनियोजित हत्या अपने आप में अतिरिक्त आकस्मिक मृत्यु लाभ के दावे को अयोग्य नहीं ठहराती। लाइफ इंश्योरेंस कॉर्पोरेशन ऑफ इंडिया को चार पॉलिसियों के लिए अतिरिक्त राशि का भुगतान करने का निर्देश दिया गया। यह निर्णय स्पष्ट करता है कि हत्यारे का इरादा और पॉलिसी के तहत मृत्यु को दुर्घटना के रूप में वर्गीकृत करना अलग-अलग मुद्दे हैं।
