The Tamil Nadu government plans to build an integrated memorial complex and library for five prominent figures on a section of the University Union Grounds in Chennai's Chetpet. The proposed site belongs to the University of Madras. However, faculty, physical education teachers, and sports enthusiasts have objected to the plan. They argue the grounds are vital for university sports activities and training for various educational institutions. The government has allocated ₹5 crore for the project, which was announced in the Assembly budget session.
