India Demands Evidence-Based Action on Forced Labour at G20 Meet
Business Standard · business
India has urged the G20 to ensure trade measures against forced labour are based on specific, verifiable evidence, not assumptions about entire regions. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated at the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting in Milwaukee that while India is committed to eliminating forced labour, any trade actions must follow due process and WTO rules. He also cautioned against using supply chain diversification as a pretext for measures outside WTO regulations. Goyal emphasized that such efforts should not burden developing nations or shift adjustment responsibilities.
