शनिवार शाम कोलकाता में दुर्गा पूजा उत्सव के दौरान एक घातक भगदड़ में कम से कम 17 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 25 अन्य घायल हो गए। अधिकारियों ने घटना की जांच के तहत चोर बागान दुर्गा पूजा के आयोजकों सहित 12 लोगों को हिरासत में लिया है। पश्चिम बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी ने भीड़ सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने में किसी भी तरह की लापरवाही पाए जाने पर सख्त कार्रवाई का वादा किया है। राज्य सरकार ने दुर्घटना के कारणों की जांच करने और भविष्य में ऐसी घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए एक स्वतंत्र न्यायिक जांच की भी घोषणा की है।
