Govt Debunks False Claims of New 5% GST on E-commerce Deliveries

The government has clarified that claims of a new 5% GST on e-commerce delivery services are false. PIB fact-check team stated that no new GST has been imposed. Instead, the CBIC has rationalised the existing GST rate from 18% to 5% for these services, following a GST Council recommendation. This uniform 5% tax now applies to all delivery services provided through e-commerce platforms, including food delivery apps.

सरकार ने स्पष्ट किया है कि ई-कॉमर्स डिलीवरी सेवाओं पर 5% GST के नए दावे झूठे हैं। PIB फैक्ट-चेक टीम ने कहा कि कोई नया GST नहीं लगाया गया है। बल्कि, GST काउंसिल की सिफारिश के बाद CBIC ने इन सेवाओं के लिए मौजूदा 18% GST दर को तर्कसंगत बनाकर 5% कर दिया है। अब यह समान 5% टैक्स ई-कॉमर्स प्लेटफॉर्म के माध्यम से प्रदान की जाने वाली सभी डिलीवरी सेवाओं पर लागू होता है, जिसमें फूड डिलीवरी ऐप भी शामिल हैं।
