The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will now use sand and other materials excavated from Bihar's rivers and water bodies for highway construction. This initiative, formalized through an MoU between the Bihar government and the Union Road Transport Ministry, aims to boost infrastructure development. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated the project will also help mitigate flooding in the state. Bihar's Chief Minister noted that desilting rivers could reduce flood impact and reclaim land for housing.
