Assam authorities have demolished the homes of over 1,100 Muslim families in the Lutumari Longjap Reserve Forest over two days. The government claims these families were encroaching on forest land. On Sunday, more than 600 families were evicted in Nagaon district, following the eviction of over 500 families on Saturday across Nagaon, Golaghat, and Hojai districts. Most affected residents were Bengali Muslims who stated they had been living on the land for decades and were settled there by the government in 1974.
