NPCI has postponed the implementation of merchant discount rate (MDR) on select UPI transactions until after Diwali, responding to industry concerns. Originally slated for, the deferment provides retailers time to reconfigure systems and brief staff during the crucial festive sales period. Retail associations are urging the government to reconsider the Rs 2,000 transaction threshold for the 0.4% MDR, citing its impact on apparel sales and already squeezed margins.
