Punjab Revenue Receipts Nearly All Spent on Salaries, Subsidies: Report

A report by the PANJ Foundation reveals that 98% of Punjab's revenue receipts are consumed by salaries, pensions, interest payments, and power subsidies. This leaves minimal fiscal space for crucial development expenditures like education and infrastructure. Economist Upinder Sawhney highlighted that nearly all earned income is spent before reaching essential services. The report also noted a rise in graduate unemployment in Punjab, from 13.1% to 16.9% between 2017-18 and 2023-24, while India's rate decreased.

PANJ Foundation की एक रिपोर्ट से पता चला है कि पंजाब की 98% राजस्व प्राप्तियां वेतन, पेंशन, ब्याज भुगतान और बिजली सब्सिडी में ही खत्म हो जाती हैं। इससे शिक्षा और बुनियादी ढांचे जैसे महत्वपूर्ण विकास खर्चों के लिए बहुत कम वित्तीय गुंजाइश बचती है। अर्थशास्त्री उपिंदर सहनी ने बताया कि लगभग सारी कमाई आवश्यक सेवाओं तक पहुँचने से पहले ही खर्च हो जाती है। रिपोर्ट में यह भी बताया गया है कि 2017-18 और 2023-24 के बीच पंजाब में ग्रेजुएट बेरोजगारी 13.1% से बढ़कर 16.9% हो गई, जबकि भारत की दर कम हुई।
