The Union Cabinet has approved Fairfax Financial Holdings' bid of ₹52,878 crore for a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank. This marks India's largest strategic disinvestment and the biggest foreign direct investment in the country's financial sector. The government and LIC will retain a combined 34% stake post-transaction. The deal, which has been in process for over five years, is expected to be completed by the end of the current fiscal year, subject to regulatory approvals. Fairfax will also need to make an open offer to minority shareholders.

केंद्रीय कैबिनेट ने IDBI बैंक में 60.72% हिस्सेदारी के लिए फेयरफैक्स फाइनेंशियल होल्डिंग्स के ₹52,878 करोड़ के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है। यह भारत का सबसे बड़ा रणनीतिक विनिवेश और देश के वित्तीय क्षेत्र में सबसे बड़ा विदेशी प्रत्यक्ष निवेश है। सरकार और LIC लेनदेन के बाद संयुक्त रूप से 34% हिस्सेदारी बनाए रखेंगे। यह सौदा, जो पांच साल से अधिक समय से प्रक्रिया में है, नियामक अनुमोदन के अधीन चालू वित्तीय वर्ष के अंत तक पूरा होने की उम्मीद है। फेयरफैक्स को अल्पसंख्यक शेयरधारकों के लिए एक ओपन ऑफर भी करना होगा।
