Female Pythons Fail As Lures In Everglades Study

Scientists in Florida tested whether captive female Burmese pythons could attract wild males in the Everglades, aiming to improve snake detection and removal efforts. Researchers placed female pythons in pens at three sites, monitored by cameras that captured over 3.6 million photographs. However, the experiment recorded only four independent python detections, with three near female-occupied pens and one near an empty control pen. The study concluded that females were ineffective lures, as wild pythons were not significantly more likely to be detected near them.
