Canada's international trade minister, Maninder Sidhu, has called India's approval of the strategic sale of a 60.72% stake in IDBI Bank to Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd a "big win" for the Canadian company. The deal, worth approximately CA$7.9 billion (US$5.6 billion), involves the transfer of management control to Fairfax. This marks India's largest strategic disinvestment and the biggest foreign financial services investment. Fairfax chairman Prem Watsa expressed excitement, calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" to build a leading financial institution in India.
