UP Lekhpal Arrested for Bribery After Trying to Burn Cash

A lekhpal in Uttar Pradesh's Lalitpur district, Vipul Tiwari, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe. He attempted to destroy the evidence by burning ₹15,000 in currency notes and flushing the ashes down his sink. An anti-corruption team broke into his house after he refused to open the door. Officials confirmed the recovery of burnt currency fragments and noted that a chemical used to mark the bribe money turned Tiwari's hands pink. The farmer, Manoj Kumar, alleged Tiwari demanded ₹20,000 to allow him to retain possession of his land.

उत्तर प्रदेश के ललितपुर जिले में एक लेखपाल, विपुल तिवारी, पर रिश्वत लेने का आरोप है। उसने ₹15,000 की नकदी जलाकर सबूत मिटाने की कोशिश की और राख को सिंक में बहा दिया। जब उसने दरवाजा नहीं खोला तो भ्रष्टाचार निरोधक टीम उसके घर में घुस गई। अधिकारियों ने जले हुए नोटों के टुकड़े मिलने की पुष्टि की और बताया कि रिश्वत के पैसे पर लगे केमिकल से तिवारी के हाथ गुलाबी हो गए थे। किसान मनोज कुमार ने आरोप लगाया कि तिवारी ने ज़मीन पर कब्ज़ा बनाए रखने के लिए ₹20,000 की मांग की थी।
