Finance Ministry Cites Law, Court Ruling in IDBI Bank Sale
Business Standard · business
The Finance Ministry has cited the IDBI (Repeal) Act of 2003 and a Delhi High Court judgment to clarify policy on the strategic disinvestment of IDBI Bank. The court ruled in 2018 that the Act does not prohibit the government from reducing its stake. This clarification follows the recent approval for selling a 60.72% stake to Fairfax Financial Holdings for approximately ₹53,000 crore. Successive Union Budget speeches have also reiterated the government's policy evolution towards divesting its stake in the bank.
