US PERM Suspension May Have Limited Impact on Indian IT Firms

The US has suspended eight firms, including Tata, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL, from the permanent labour certification programme, citing concerns about shutting out American workers. However, data indicates that Indian IT companies have significantly reduced their reliance on the PERM route in recent years. For instance, Tata Consultancy Services filed only two PERM applications in FY2026, a sharp decline from previous years. Industry bodies like NASSCOM and TCS have stated that the suspension is unlikely to impact their workforce strategies or customer engagements due to this reduced dependence.
