Swiss Watch Industry Shrinks But Becomes Swankier Amidst Luxury Boom
Hindustan Times · business
The Swiss watch industry is experiencing a decline in export volume, which has halved over the past decade, largely due to the rise of smartwatches. However, the value of exports continues to increase, driven by a surge in demand for luxury timepieces. Top brands like Rolex, Cartier, and Patek Philippe are capturing a larger share of revenue, with watches costing over SFr50,000 accounting for a growing percentage of total value. This shift towards premiumization has benefited luxury makers but has negatively impacted companies like Swatch, whose profits have plunged.
