Half of India's Coal Plants Critically Low on Fuel Amidst Surging Power Demand
Business Standard · business
Nearly half of India's 191 coal-fired power plants are facing critically low fuel stocks, with 96 plants having less than three days of supply as of October 19. This situation arises from a significant surge in power demand, exacerbated by hotter-than-usual weather and reduced hydroelectric output due to weaker monsoons. Despite efforts to ramp up coal supplies, total stocks at power stations have fallen by approximately 5% this month.
