India has strongly objected to comments made by the OHCHR regarding protests and arrests in Delhi. India's Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva called the UN's remarks 'unwarranted' and an 'unnecessary interference' in the country's internal matters. The OHCHR had expressed concern over the mass detentions of protesters, leaders, and journalists before and during demonstrations. India asserted that its democratic framework, independent judiciary, and media protect citizens' right to peaceful assembly, while also allowing for reasonable restrictions to maintain public order.
