SC Reserves Verdict on ED Plea for CBI Probe into Mamata Banerjee's Conduct

The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on a plea by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) seeking a CBI probe into alleged obstruction of its raids at I-PAC offices. The ED accused former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and state officials of removing records and devices, calling it a "gross obstruction of justice." Ms. Banerjee had previously stated the raids were an attempt to derail the Trinamool Congress before the 2026 Assembly elections.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ED) की उस याचिका पर अपना फैसला सुरक्षित रख लिया है जिसमें I-PAC दफ्तरों में कथित तौर पर ED की छापेमारी में बाधा डालने के लिए सीबीआई जांच की मांग की गई थी। ED ने पश्चिम बंगाल की पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी और राज्य के अधिकारियों पर रिकॉर्ड और डिवाइस हटाने का आरोप लगाया, जिसे उन्होंने "न्याय में घोर बाधा" बताया। सुश्री बनर्जी ने पहले कहा था कि यह छापेमारी 2026 के विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले तृणमूल कांग्रेस को पटरी से उतारने का एक प्रयास था।
