Fishing May Alter Fish Molecular Level

Heavy fishing could be altering pearly razorfish at a molecular level, according to a new study. While no significant DNA changes were found, researchers observed differences in DNA methylation, an epigenetic process influencing gene function. The study also highlighted that marine reserves are crucial for preserving larger, older fish and maintaining greater genetic diversity within fish populations.

नई स्टडी के मुताबिक, बहुत ज़्यादा मछली पकड़ने से पर्ली रेज़रफ़िश में आणविक स्तर पर बदलाव आ सकते हैं। डीएनए में कोई बड़ा बदलाव तो नहीं मिला, लेकिन शोधकर्ताओं ने डीएनए मेथाइलेशन में अंतर देखा, जो जीन के काम करने के तरीके को प्रभावित करता है। स्टडी में यह भी बताया गया कि समुद्री संरक्षित क्षेत्र बड़ी और पुरानी मछलियों को बचाने और उनमें ज़्यादा आनुवंशिक विविधता बनाए रखने के लिए बहुत ज़रूरी हैं।
