High Salt Intake Linked to Fatty Liver in Lean Individuals, Study Finds
TV9 Hindi · health
A recent study suggests that excessive salt consumption can lead to liver damage, even in lean individuals. Scientists developed a mouse model for lean fatty liver disease, feeding mice a high-salt diet. The research found that high salt intake caused liver inflammation and scarring in non-obese mice, indicating a potential role in fatty liver disease for those without excess weight. This contrasts with obesity-related fatty liver, where excess fat accumulation is the primary cause. The findings may explain why treatments for obesity-related fatty liver are less effective in lean patients.
