The Kerala High Court has declared that postgraduate medical students sitting idle without being posted is a "national waste." The court was hearing petitions from 23 medical postgraduates who had been waiting for their mandatory one-year service postings for nearly eight months after results were published. The court upheld the bond requirement but directed that the service period should commence from the result publication date. The State cited COVID-19's impact, leading to a backlog of nearly 1,000 students and only 600 available vacancies.
