Archaeologists in Poland have uncovered a 17th-century cemetery with unusual burial practices. Over 100 individuals were interred with sickles around their necks, locks on their toes, and coins in their mouths, suggesting a fear of them rising from the dead. These rituals were common in Eastern Europe during periods of high mortality, often attributed to disease or famine, reflecting deep-seated superstitions about the undead.
