In India, there isn't a uniform 'cooling-off period' for all constitutional posts after retirement. While some positions have explicit restrictions on taking up new government jobs, others have specific limitations. Notably, retired Supreme Court and High Court judges do not face a general, fixed two-year cooling-off period before accepting political roles. The government has clarified that the constitution doesn't mandate such a period for post-retirement judicial appointments. The Supreme Court has also declined to direct the government to implement a mandatory two-year cooling-off period for retired judges.
