IMF Urges India to Let Rupee Adjust Amidst RBI Defence

Business Standard · business

The International Monetary Fund has advised India to allow its currency, the rupee, to adjust to global shocks rather than solely relying on intervention. IMF's Krishna Srinivasan stated that countries allowing exchange rates to move have benefited more, acting as a first line of defense. While the Reserve Bank of India is actively defending the rupee through various measures, the IMF also acknowledged positive steps taken by the RBI to attract capital inflows. These measures aim to bolster dollar supplies and ease pressure on the rupee without depleting reserves.
