Coimbatore Councillor Urges Immediate Desilting of Clogged Stormwater Drains

MDMK councillor Chithra Vellingiri has urged the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation to immediately desilt stormwater drains, which she claims are clogged with soil and silt. She reported that sewage water has entered homes, particularly those of economically weaker families, due to the lack of proper cleaning. Vellingiri stated that desilting should have been completed before the monsoon, noting that delayed work means silt cannot dry, risking it washing back into drains. Similar issues have been reported in various areas across Coimbatore, indicating a widespread problem.

MDMK पार्षद चित्रा वेलिंगिरी ने कोयंबटूर सिटी म्युनिसिपल कॉर्पोरेशन से कहा है कि वे तुरंत नालियों की सफाई करें, क्योंकि उनका दावा है कि वे मिट्टी और गाद से भरी हुई हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि उचित सफाई न होने के कारण सीवेज का पानी घरों में घुस गया है, खासकर आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर परिवारों के घरों में। वेलिंगिरी ने कहा कि मानसून से पहले नालियों की सफाई पूरी हो जानी चाहिए थी, और देर से काम होने का मतलब है कि गाद सूख नहीं पाएगी, जिससे वह वापस नालियों में बहने का खतरा है। कोयंबटूर के विभिन्न इलाकों से ऐसी ही समस्याएं बताई गई हैं, जो एक व्यापक समस्या का संकेत देती हैं।
