Ahead of the New Zealand tour, the BCCI has decided that Test hopefuls must play in the Ranji Trophy. This diktat aims to ensure players get sufficient red-ball practice before the crucial two-Test series starting November 15. Key players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul are expected to participate in at least one group stage fixture, subject to medical clearance. Jasprit Bumrah is also being considered for a Ranji game or an India A match to build bowling volume.
