Brain Stimulation Technique Successfully Reduces Alcohol Cravings in Indian Trial

Psychiatrists in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, have successfully trialled a brain stimulation technique called Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) to help patients overcome severe alcohol addiction. The research, published in 'Primary Care Companion for CNS Disorders', showed that applying a mild electric current to the brain significantly reduced cravings. Patients receiving the actual therapy experienced a 14.17-point reduction in their desire to drink, nearly double the improvement seen in the sham treatment group.

देहरादून, उत्तराखंड के मनोचिकित्सकों ने ट्रांसक्रेनियल डायरेक्ट करंट स्टिमुलेशन (tDCS) नामक ब्रेन स्टिमुलेशन तकनीक का सफलतापूर्वक ट्रायल किया है ताकि गंभीर शराब की लत वाले मरीजों की मदद की जा सके। 'प्राइमरी केयर कंपेनियन फॉर सीएनएस डिसऑर्डर्स' में प्रकाशित शोध से पता चला है कि दिमाग पर हल्का बिजली का करंट लगाने से पीने की इच्छा में काफी कमी आई। असली थेरेपी लेने वाले मरीजों ने पीने की इच्छा में 14.17 अंकों की कमी का अनुभव किया, जो कि नकली उपचार समूह में देखे गए सुधार से लगभग दोगुना था।
