India Installs 5.62 Crore Smart Meters, But 80% Users Avoid Digital Features

TV9 Hindi · technology

India has installed 5.62 crore smart electricity meters across the country, aiming to provide consumers with easy access to consumption and billing information. However, a significant gap exists as over 80% of users are not utilizing the associated mobile applications. Many consumers are unaware of the app's existence or its functionalities, while others face challenges with digital literacy and technical issues. Reliance on traditional billing methods and a lack of perceived necessity also contribute to low adoption rates, despite the apps offering real-time consumption tracking and control.
