Three 18-year-old boys drowned while bathing in the Luna river in Kendrapada district on Tuesday. The victims, identified as Chirnjibi Parida, Sabyasachi Swain, and Ashis Satapathy, were Plus II students from Gahaga village. They were reportedly swept away by strong river currents near a deep pit. Eyewitnesses and police stated that unregulated sand mining may have created these hidden pits, turning them into death traps. Fire service personnel recovered all three bodies, and doctors later declared them deceased upon arrival at the community health centre.
