Indian Rupee Ends Flat As Stock Slump Erodes Early Gains

The Indian rupee closed nearly unchanged on Monday, erasing modest early gains after local stocks slumped and importers stepped in to buy dollars. The benchmark Nifty 50 index fell over 1%, pressured by weakness in heavyweight information technology and financials stocks. Importers' dollar demand also acted as a drag on the local currency, even as Brent crude oil prices dropped about 2% to $108 per barrel.

भारतीय रुपया सोमवार को लगभग अपरिवर्तित बंद हुआ, स्थानीय शेयरों में गिरावट और आयातकों द्वारा डॉलर खरीदने के लिए आगे आने के बाद शुरुआती मामूली बढ़त खत्म हो गई। बेंचमार्क Nifty 50 इंडेक्स 1% से अधिक गिर गया, जो भारी सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी और वित्तीय शेयरों में कमजोरी से दबाव में था। ब्रेंट क्रूड ऑयल की कीमतों में लगभग 2% की गिरावट और 108 डॉलर प्रति बैरल पर आने के बावजूद, आयातकों की डॉलर की मांग ने स्थानीय मुद्रा पर भी दबाव डाला।
