In a historic first for international cricket, Sri Lankan batsman Angelo Mathews was declared 'timed out' during a World Cup match in Delhi. The incident occurred when Mathews' helmet strap broke as he prepared to face the bowler. He requested a replacement helmet, but Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan appealed for 'timed out'. Umpires upheld the appeal, ruling Mathews was not ready to face the next ball within the stipulated two minutes. The decision led to significant on-field debate and anger from the Sri Lankan team.
