AI in US Hospitals May Increase Costs

Hospitals and medical insurers in the US are increasingly using artificial intelligence for tasks like medical records and claims processing. However, a new analysis suggests this AI adoption may be driving up healthcare expenses. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association found that AI-assisted coding alone was linked to nearly $1 billion in additional costs over two years. This occurred as hospitals submitted claims for more complex patient conditions without evidence of different treatment, intensifying billing disputes.

अमेरिका के अस्पताल और मेडिकल बीमा कंपनियाँ मेडिकल रिकॉर्ड और क्लेम प्रोसेसिंग जैसे कामों के लिए आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस (AI) का इस्तेमाल बढ़ा रही हैं। लेकिन, एक नई जाँच से पता चलता है कि AI के इस इस्तेमाल से स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं का खर्च बढ़ सकता है। Blue Cross Blue Shield Association ने पाया कि अकेले AI-assisted कोडिंग की वजह से दो साल में लगभग 1 अरब डॉलर का अतिरिक्त खर्च आया। ऐसा इसलिए हुआ क्योंकि अस्पतालों ने ज़्यादा जटिल मरीज़ों की बीमारियों के लिए क्लेम सबमिट किए, जबकि इलाज में कोई फ़र्क़ नहीं था, जिससे बिलिंग को लेकर विवाद बढ़ गए।
