21 Indian Cities Face Critical Water Shortage Due to Depleting Groundwater Levels
TV9 Hindi · environment
At least 21 major Indian cities are experiencing dangerously low groundwater levels, with Hyderabad facing the worst situation among them. This crisis is not due to a lack of rainfall but rather the mismanagement of water resources and the destruction of traditional water bodies like lakes. Bengaluru, for instance, has lost most of its lakes to urban development, leading to dried-up borewells and reliance on expensive water tankers. This depletion of groundwater, which can take decades to replenish, is now a harsh reality for millions of urban dwellers across India.
