Governor Can Seek Legal Advice Beyond Advocate General

A debate has arisen regarding whether a state governor can appoint a personal legal adviser, even when the Constitution provides for an advocate general. While the advocate general is constitutionally mandated to advise the government on legal matters, the Constitution does not explicitly prohibit a governor from seeking independent legal opinions. Such personal counsel would only offer advice and could not exercise the governor's constitutional powers or make decisions.
