ECI Suspends Six UP Officials Over Council Poll Lapses

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended six officials in Uttar Pradesh due to dereliction of duty and lapses at polling booths during the Agra Division Teachers Constituency Council polls. The ECI stated that such serious lapses cannot be condoned and directed charge-sheets to be issued to the delinquent officers. Repolling was conducted peacefully in three affected polling booths with a 57% voter turnout. This action follows an uproar over alleged supervisory failures during the October 23 election.
