Mauritius Imposes Curfew After Police Shooting Sparks Unrest

Mauritius has imposed a curfew in parts of the country following public unrest overnight, triggered by the shooting of a 27-year-old woman by a police officer. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam announced the curfew would be in effect from 8:30 PM to 6 AM in the capital, Port Louis, and other major population centres. Schools were closed on Tuesday due to the turmoil. Local media reported a police sergeant was charged, and an investigation is underway into the incident where the woman was shot while travelling home from work.
