The Calcutta High Court has questioned the Bengal government's detention of Sahidul Sheikh, a Murshidabad resident, for over a month without providing reasons for suspecting him of being Bangladeshi. Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya asked the state's counsel about the basis of detention and human rights violations. Sheikh's wife moved the court alleging illegal detention, stating he is an Indian citizen with valid documents.

कोलकाता हाई कोर्ट ने बंगाल सरकार से पूछा है कि मुर्शिदाबाद के शाहिदुल शेख को एक महीने से ज़्यादा समय से क्यों हिरासत में रखा गया है, जबकि उन्हें बांग्लादेशी होने का शक़ होने का कोई कारण नहीं बताया गया। जस्टिस सौगत भट्टाचार्य ने राज्य के वकील से हिरासत के आधार और मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन के बारे में पूछा। शेख की पत्नी ने कोर्ट में याचिका दायर कर अवैध हिरासत का आरोप लगाया है, कहा कि वह भारतीय नागरिक हैं और उनके पास ज़रूरी कागज़ात हैं।
