Psychology Explains Why Some People Finish Every Last Bite of Food

Times of India · health

Psychology suggests that finishing every last bite of food, even when full, can stem from various factors. Childhood conditioning, such as being told not to waste food or that others are starving, often instills this habit. A fear of scarcity, developed from past inconsistent food supplies, can also influence this behavior. Psychologists refer to this as the 'clean plate' habit, where individuals struggle to stop eating until the plate is empty, sometimes ignoring their body's signals of fullness.
