Mumbai RTO Probes Fake Clearances For Taxi Meter Resets Amid New Fares
Times of India · automobile
Mumbai's Regional Transport Offices are investigating widespread irregularities in taxi and autorickshaw meter testing, with reports of fake stamps and fraudulent clearance processes being used. This probe follows a recent fare revision, which increased auto and taxi fares, and comes as operators have a November 30 deadline to recalibrate their meters. Authorities are concerned that rigged meters could lead to commuters being overcharged. New directives mandate that meter testing and certification must occur only within the RTO jurisdiction where the vehicle is registered.
