Gangsters in southern Tamil Nadu are now using mule Instagram accounts to issue murder threats, paying ₹400 per post to avoid police detection. Account holders receive content and instructions via chats, with criminals dictating the dialogue and editing to bypass police radar. Following warnings, many users deleted the provocative videos, some confessing to receiving ₹400 for uploading supplied material. Sivaganga police have blocked 44 social media handles and registered six FIRs, booking 18 individuals for promoting enmity and circulating mischief-inducing statements.
